About John 'Quaker' Bates

GEDCOM Note

(Research): According to book: «i»Adventurers of Purse and Person: «/i» John Bates, son of the immigrant, married Elizabeth?...who joined him 21 Aug 1689 in selling 50 acres in Bruton Parish (which may be the same 50 acres patented by his father). His father's land patent was recorded in Patent Book 3 Pg. 377. This patent was renewed in the Patent Book Pg 465 (566) The book notes that this land (Middle Plantation) became Williamsburg in 1697. The book goes on to say that he married (2) Jane

who as wife of John Bates was buried 10 November 1692. He was buried 20 March 1701/2 per Burton Parish Register Pg 99 It lists two children: John Bates III buried 10 March 1686/7 per Bruton Parish Register Pg 90 and Elizabeth Bates buried November 1692 " " " Pg 95 (This sounds plausible but up to this point our Bates researchers were unable to identify the burial records for John, 1701/2, John 1686/7, Eliz. post 1689, Eliz. 1692 and Jane 1692.)
