George was son of John Bates, (see will of John Bates, proved in court January 24th, 1667, York County, Virginia, Book 3, p. 165).

BATES RECORDS Letter from Louie Oatman of Madras Or., (1994) gives the following:
Susanna Bates dtr. of John Bates 1598-1666 and Mary? Winston. (other sources say Elizabeth)
George Bates-(bro. of above Susanna) 1625-1676 marr. Mary Daniel? (instead of Mary Brewer?) They had a son John who marr Elizabeth Daniel. Ann has a sister Hannah Bates marr. Tarlton Fleming and bro. John Bates marr Susannah Fleming. (I do not know the source of this.)

Printed sources give [George's] birth date at 1625 which is probably much too early.
3 children were underage when his will was made, and one born later.
Will 6 January 1676; will proved April court 1677, York, Co., Va; wife Mary, who married second Edmund Brewer. She died prior to June Court 1720.

His will was probated April 1677, naming wife Mary, and children, John, James, Mary and George who was born posthumously. Mary, wife of George Bates married second Edmund Brewer.

York County - 6 January 1676 Prob.April 1677
In the name of God, amen
I George Bates being asked in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, praise be therefore given to Almighty God, doe make and ordeyne this my present, last will and testament in manner and form following (yt is to say) first and principally I comit my soule unto the hand of Almighty God, hoping through the meritts, death and passion of my saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and to inherit everlasting life, and my body I comit to the earth to be decently buried at the discresion of my Executrix hereafter named, and as touching all such Trust (?) and all Estate which itt hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon mee, I give and dispose as followith--
First my will is that my Debts and funerall charges shall be paid and discharged.
Item I will that my land be equally divided between my loving wife and my two sonnes, John Bates and James Bates, and in case either of my two sonnes afore mentioned should die before my loving daughter, Mary Bates, then their part of the Land to fall to my said daughter.
Item I will tht my two sonnes John Btes and james Bates and my daughte Mary Bates have each of them a cowe delivered to them when of age.
Item I will that my two sonnes John Bates and James Bates and my daughter Mary Bates have each of them a foale in case the mare lives to bring them, and if the old mare should die after her first foale and the first foale be a mare foale the to have each of them a foale being the poduce of that foale.
Item the rest and residue of my personall Estate, goods and Chattells whatsoever I do give and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary, to be sole Executrix of this my last will and testament and I doe hereby revoke, disanull and make void all former will and testament by mee heretofore made. In witness whereof I hereto sett my hand and seale January 6, 1676

Residence of 3rd generation John Bates. It gives George Bates' (son of the immigrant)2nd wife as Hannah Tindall. John Bates' wife is not given.

John Isaac's son George was born & lived out his lifev in York Co. as would the several next generations of Bates men. George marr. Mary Smith Brewer in 1643 & they had James, John II, Hannah, Mary & George Jr.
Before his death George Bates became a Quaker, adopting the religious teachings of George Fox, including the necessity of living a life of prayer & showing pious faith is acts of brotherhood. By all accounts, George lived a prosperous life & died on April 24, 1677 in *Skimeno. Wife Mary lived to a good old age, dying in 1720.
