CAMBRIDGE - John B. Sherman Sr., died early January 20 in Mary McClellan Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Sherman was born July 14, 1900, in Shushan, son of William D. and Addie Watkins Sherman. He attended Saratoga High School and was graduated in 1920 from Irving School for Boys. He was a lifelong resident of the area, and was a retired employee of the New York State Department of Transportation.
He was a past master of Cambridge Valley Lodge 481, F and A.M., served as grand sword bearer of the Grand Lodge in 1958, was a member, trustee and secretary of the board of trustees of Embury Methodist Church for many years and was long active in Boy Scouts and the Order of DeMolay.
Survivors are his wife, Katherine Decker Sherman; a daughter, Mrs. Jean Ashton of Cambridge; a son, John B. Sherman Jr. of Cortland; two sisters, Miss Helen Sherman of Cambridge and Mrs. Florence Jones of Hoosick Falls, and four grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Embury Methodist Church by the Rev. Francis A. Potter, pastor. Interment will be in Woodlands Cemetery in the spring.
Cambridge Valley Lodge conducted a Masonic service Friday evening at the Charles A. Ackley Funeral Home.
