OBITUATY-PETER BEISCHEL-Jefferson Banner, May 27, 1875
DIED-Peter Beischel, an old resident of this town, died at his residence in this village on the 25th instant, of consumption, 75 years of age. Mr. Beishel and his family were among the German emigrants that settled in our county in an early day; and, although his life may not have been as prosperous and happy as some, still it has been in every sense of the word an honorable one. While he was but a new comer among us, he had the misfortune to lose one of his legs, and, although he was nearly discouraged in consequence; he soon regained his former ambition and fought life's battle in an honorable upright manner; and, by the sweat of their brows, he and his good frau were enabled to lay aside a sufficient sum for a rainy day. He died a devoted Catholic and his remains will be deposited in the Catholic cemetery in this village to-morrow [28 May 1875].
Peter Beischel sailed from Bremen aboard the Ship Unicorn, and arrived in New York on 1 October 1845 with 6 children. He filed a Declaration of Intention in Jefferson County on 7 September 1846. On 2 November 1847, he married Theresia Kellner, the daughter of Wolfgang and Barbara (Nibler) Kellner, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Territory.
Note: The death and burial dates are noted in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church records, but the grave is unmarked.
