1820 settler (and subsequent party leader). Sailed from, London aboard the Nautilus as part of Thomas Rowle's party of 27 people. Arrived in Cape Town 17 March 1820 (10 families) Arrived in Algoa Bay on 14 April 1820 and reached location 40 on the right bank of the Kap River 9 May. Named the area Rivers Town or Rivers Dale in honour of the Landdrost of Albany, Harry Rivers. Rowles abandoned the location in 1821 and was succeeded by Francis Blackbeard as director .
