About John Thomas Bradley, I

John Bradley, 1707-1778, Rutherford County, NC

adapted post from Donald Bradley December 29, 2006 https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/bradley/6188/

re: John Bradley who died in Rutherford County North Carolina in 1778. John was born in 1707 in St. Stephens Parish in what is now actually King and Queen County, Va. At the time of his birth, it was still part of the original and very large New Kent County. There remains a much smaller New Kent County in Virginia, but in 1707 it encompassed most of what later became King and Queen County, Caroline County, Orange County, and a few others. John's first wife was a Diana, but she was not a Corntassle. She was in fact Diana Johnson Williams, and she was born in 1715 and died in 1759. John and Diana had four known children before her death.

By the way, John's father was Edward Bradley, and Edward's father was Thomas Bradley who was born in 1633 in Yorkshire England. Thomas was the son of another Thomas, who was an Anglican priest. The Thomas who was born in 1739 was the son of a Joseph Bradley, and not related to John of Rutherford County. The John who was born in Middlesex County in 1718 is actually buried in that county, so that eliminates him.

I have copies of some land patent deeds for Thomas, Edward and also John in Virginia. John's will is on file in the North Carolina state museum.
