TWO ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE WHILE DRUNK Two men were each fined £40 by Mr. F. E. A. Bateman, S.M., in the Perth Traffic Court yesterday for attempted drunken driving. Their driver's licences were also suspended for three months. The offenders were John George Buckley (35), carpenter, of Brandon-street, South Perth, and Frank Katalenich (30), panel beater, of Tower-street, Leederville. Buckley, who admitted the offence, was said to have been seen by two policemen while trying to crank his car in Mill Point-road, South Perth, on Saturday. He had been unsteady on his feet and had admitted having had four schooners. Buckley had refused to take a sobriety test, it was said. Katalenich, who denied the charge, had been seen trying to start his motor cycle in Carr street, Leederville, on January 2. George Liddle Scott, window cleaner, of Vincent-street, Leederville, said that he had seen the defendant's motor cycle fall on top of him as he tried to start it. Witness had helped him to his feet, smelt liquor on him and told him not to ride the machine. When Katalenich again tried to ride off, witness rang the police. Katalenich, who had later failed to pass a sobriety test, said that he had only been attempting to park the machine correctly. Set. R. W. Grey prosecuted. Mr. J Wickham appeared for Katalenich
