GEDCOM Note
EXCERPT from -The Burkhart - Burkett Family in America, A history of the Ancestors and Descendants of Johann Jacob Burkhardt 1712 - 1794 by Bess Burkett Hill.
After the death of John's mother Sabina, in 1796, John and Catherine moved to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The United States Government, under the Act of May 10, 1800, offered land in Ohio to veterans who had served in the Revolutionary War. A general migration from Lancaster County to Fairfield County, Ohio took place about 1810 and John and Catherine, with their children, made the move to Ohio.
John's son George, by his first wife Mary Barbara, accompanied the family west. These children were the progenitors of the Burkhardt family in Ohio. About this time, however, the descendants of Jonn Jacob, the immigrant from Germany, changed the spelling of the name from Burkhardt (the German form) to Burkett.
----------------------------
John George Burkhardt Burkett is found to have been born either in Europe and moved to the US as a baby or born here. This is why the date of birth appears to change as I have found. Born between 1753 and 1756. I find that the August 21, 1753 is most likely while also, March 09, 1755 and 1756 on comes up on some sites. His grave is marked as, "John Burkhardt, St, died January 2, 1847 aged 93 years, 4 months, 12 days. A soldier of the Revolution and a member of Washington's Life Guard."
Therefore being born on August 21, 1753 works.
He lost his 1st wife Mary Barbara Fox during the birth of their last child. The baby also died. (possibly 9th child). He then married her sister Catherine Fox and they had up to 15 children. He moved to Ohio in 1810 with Catherine at the age 57 from Lancaster Pennsylvania. They moved because after 1800 the Govt. offered free land in Ohio for those who served in the Revolutionary War.
John Burkhard(t) Burkett was one of Gen. George Washington's Lifeguards in the Revolutionary War.
