About John Shipman Burleson
Texas Independence - Served in Capt. Randal Jones' company against Gen. Cos after he enlisted in Fall 1835. He later served in Capt. William B. Travis' company during the Siege of San Antonio and at the Battle of Concepcion. He later enlisted in Capt. Gibson Kuykendall's company at Gonzales in the regiment of Col. Edward Burleson. He did participate in the Battle of San Jacinto because he was among those soldiers furloughed to move families across the Brazos River. He received a bounty warrant for 320 acres for his action in the war.
