John Henry Charles Butler

Please note I have removed the name of Thorneycroft from his christian names. This name does not exist in my database on my home PC so I do not know how it has been added here. John was a farmer at Queenstown (Imvani River) in 1857 and Virginia from Dist. Uitenhage (Rec on Marr Cert). He was later granted farms in Kei Road and Komgha in 1864 and 1872 respectively. Being named Thorneycroft and Belladonna in the Tyityiba valley.

John Henry Charles Butler had a farm in the Imvani District Queenstown in 1857 when he got married by special licence. He was at "Prospect Park" around 1860 when Florence was born. Near Fort White -Debe neck. near King Williams town. Later acquired various farms in the komgha district such as Beladonna, Old Kei Drift, Walville and others. His main farm was Thornycroft in the Kei Road district. The houses were burnt down on this farm during the kaffir wars, but he was compensated for this. John ordered a shotgun from England in the 1880's which I still have in my posession, being handed down in the family. He lost his wife Virginia in a buggy accident in 1869, his daughter Lucy died a short while later. Both buried in the Anglican Church - Komgha. He eventually died in his Sons house on the farm Walville in 1897.

Strangely have never found his grave despite being buried from the Anglican Church in Komgha. Wonder if he was not buried on Thornycroft.
