John Calfee was a Civil War Veteran - a Sgt. in Co.D and Co. F, 151st Reg. and 60th, VA Militia. C.S.A.
He enlisted in 2nd Company H, 60th Virginia Infantry, C.S.A. on 4/25/1862 at Princeton, West Virginia.
Captured at Cloyd's Mountain on 5/9/1864; POW at Camp Chase, Ohio.
Exchanged on 2/25/1865. Paroled on 6/21/1865 at age 30.

John Anderson Calfee was the son of William Calfee and Evalina S. Howard.
He first married Margaret Carper Peck in October 1859.
Secondly, Julia Ann Davidson (daughter of Joseph A. Davidson) in January 1867.
1880 Census of Henry County, MO enumerated that he was age 44, a grain dealer and married to Julia, age 36.
1900 Census of Henry County, MO, enumerated that he was age 64, a mail contractor and married to Julia, age 54 for 33 years
1910 Census of Ward 28, St. Louis, Missouri, Age 74 "widower", "own income', Confederate Army pension. He was living at 33 Kingsbury Place with the family of son, Joseph S. Calfee.
1920 residing at the same address, age 84 and "widower" Died on 4/18/1927 in St. Louis, MO. Buried in Laurel Oak Cemetery [Windsor City Cemetery], Henry County, MO, lot: 0064, next to his 2nd wife Julia.
