The following was found at: www.billputman.com/JOHN CANADAY of King George County.pdf UPDATED 20 June 2008- (some of my revisions added) RESEARCHERS AND ADDRESS ARE SHOWN FOR THE LINE OF JOHN CANA DAY

JOHN CANADAY of King George County, Virginia This is another Quaker family and they also spell the nam e as we do. This is one branch I just know is connected t o our line. Guesswork at the early line of Canadays Based on what pops up in Maryland in the 1600s and early 17 00s, I am making a stab at the early American part of thi s particular Canaday family. Much of this is based on several points. These lines all sp ell their name the same way. They were all Quakers. They al l have roots on the Eastern shore of Maryland in the mid t o late 1600s. All moved to Virginia by the early 1700s. The y married into the same families.

WILLIAM CANADAY William was born about 1645-1650 most likely in Ireland, bu t possibly in England. Records show that he was transporte d to Virginia (Virginia, which of course then included Mary land, Pennsylvania and most of the South) in 1665. Transpor t was paid for by Ambrose London on January 22, 1865. He i s listed in Somerset County, Maryland in 1666. He married Anne Fisher in Somerset May 28, 1667 or April 26 , 1668. Anne came to Maryland by ship in 1665. Transport wa s paid by Richard Whitty who sold Anne?s indenture to Willi am Canaday, and they were married soon afterwards. They wer e later divorced and Anne married George Treherne on Augus t 29, 1676. He had a daughter Mary born July 26, 1669 and son William b orn October 22, 1671, and maybe another one or two tossed i n for good measure. Then he seems to have married again an d had Roger in 1678 and John in 1680.

JOHN CANADAY John was born in Somerset County, Maryland in about 1680. H e has his own cattle marks registered here in 1700. He marr ied Elizabeth Douge or Douze in Kent County Maryland on Ma y 31, 1701. Since there is a gap between the first and seco nd kids, we think he had a second wife, but don?t know he r name yet.

JOHN CANADAY was born in 1707, and married Margaret Summer s on August 17, 1727 in Talbot County, Maryland. Their chil dren were: John Canaday born July 22, 1728. He married Susan Tripple t in King George County about 1750. He died in 1773. He i s the John Canaday listed next in King George County. William Canaday born October 16, 1730. He was first marrie d about 1750, but we don?t have her name. He later marrie d Nancy Hill September 11, 1759 and ended up in Franklin Co unty, Virginia. Sarah Canaday born July 12, 1733. Summers Canaday born April 12, 1734. Moses Canaday born February 20, 1735.

JOHN CANNADAY Not much is known of this first John Canaday/Cannaday excep t information from his will that was proved in 1773 in Kin g George County, Virginia. He had 7 children and was probab ly born in the late 1720s. If I am right, he was born Jul y 22, 1728, a son of John and Margaret Summers Canaday. His wife was Susanna Triplett, and she was a daughter of ei ther William or John Triplett. They would have been marrie d about 1745-1750. There were seven children listed in the Will. Only one ha d children mentioned. The children listed were: JAMES CANNADAY, DANIEL CANNADAY had a son named James liste d in the will, GEORGE CANNADAY, RICHARD CANNADAY, ISABELL A CANADAY, ELIZABETH CANNADAY, RACHEL CANNADAY and JOHN CAN ADAY listed next.

JOHN CANADAY John Canaday was born in King George County, Virginia on Ja nuary 14, 1763, or on March 14, 1763 according to another r esearcher. He enlisted in the Virginia Line in the Revolution in Bedfo rd County, Virginia on September 1, 1781. He was in Campbell County, Virginia when he married Mary Sh earer on March 26, 1787. They had seven children while livi ng in Campbell County. All of the children went to Casey County, Kentucky, and the n to Montgomery County, Illinois. Some later went to Gentr y County, Missouri. It is noteworthy that Russell Canaday, son of Bowater Canad ay of my Canaday Line also went to Gentry County and settle d there near this other Canaday family. No proof, but thi s seems to me to further tie in these two families together. John Canaday died in Hillsboro, Montgomery County, Illinoi s on December 15, 1836 and Mary died there after 1844.
