John Carle

John Carll (Carle) was born in Saco, Maine, 6 Sept 1759, but baptized in Scarborough, Maine, 7 Oct 1759. He was the son of Simeon and Elizabeth (Tibbetts) Carle.

PLEASE NOTE: he was NOT the son of Samuel and Esther (Burbank) Carle.

John's parents, Simeon and Elizabeth Carle, moved to Waterborough, Maine in the early 1760s. During the Revolutionary War, John Carll served as a private in Capt. Pike's Regiment, under Col. Smith. Serving with him was his brother-in-law, Capt Thomas Hutchins of Waterborough (husband of his sister Abigail).

Following the War, John Carll was married in Waterborough on 5 July 1782 to Mary Morrell. They lived for many years in Waterborough (where they are seen in the 1790 census) before moving, in their later years, to Hollis, Maine. John was a resident of Hollis on 3 Sept 1832 when, age 73, he deposed about his Rev War service. He died in nearby Buxton one year later, on 20 Sept 1833, age 74 years.

John's widow Mary later moved to Verona, Oneida Co., New York where she is seen living on 11 Feb 1839. She later moved to Painesville, Lake Co., Ohio where she died on 13 Dec 1841, age 83.

It should be also noted that, although John's Rev War pension record gives his date of marriage to Mary Morrell as 5 July 1782, their eldest son Stephen was born on 4 Nov 1781. It is possible the marriage date was remembered incorrectly (perhaps 5 July 1780 or 5 July 1781), but it is equally possible that Stephen was born to this couple prior to their actual marriage.
