About Lieut. Simeon Carle
Simeon Carle was born in Scarborough, Maine in 1727. He was married there in 1752 to Elizabeth Tibbetts, and shortly thereafter, settled in nearby Pepperellborough (now Saco), Maine. They were the parents of four children: Abigail (1753-1844), Judith [Juda] (b. c1756), John (1759-1833), and Timothy (b. c1761). Simeon was a lieutenant in the French and Indian War in the mid-1750s. In the early 1760s, he and his young family moved to Waterborough, Maine. Simeon died there prior to 1771, when his four surviving brothers, Samuel Jr., Nathaniel, Robert, and Benjamin deeded land formerly belonging to their late father, Samuel Carle Sr. Simeon's wife was "Widow Elizabeth Carle" of Waterborough in 1790, living next to her son, John Carle, and a widowed daughter-in-law, Anna Carle.
In August 1791, many years after Simeon's death, his estate was put to probate. This action was apparently initiated because his widow Elizabeth was insolvent, and Simeon had been owed substantial money at the time of his death. Over 20 years later, these had still not been paid.
