John eventually settled in Virginia. (Arrived - originally - on the James in 1622, with (step?)mother Mary Chapline.)
Never, in any primary documentation whatsoever, explicitly described as the son of Isaac Chapline, but only as a "kinsman". This raises the possibility that he may have been a nephew, or a son by an undocumented first marriage (which, given the long age gap between him and Isaac Chapline's known children, is a distinct possibility).
