About John Clark, of Farmington

John Clark was born abt. 1631-7, probably in England or Scotland or Massachusetts, and died 22 Nov 1712 in Farmington, Conn.

He is not a founder of Hartford, he was born around the same time Hartford was founded. The name on the Hartford Founder's monument is John Clarke who d. Feb 1674 at Milford, Connecticut.

John was made a freeman of Farmington in May 1664, and was in office there in 1691.The record has that "John Clark of Farmington ye aged Departed his Natural Life twenty-second of November In ye year of or Lord 1712." His will is dated February 8, 1709/10, and has a codicil of the day before he died.

[Source:" Record of the Descendants of John Clark of Farmington," by Julius Gay], No Christian name of the wife is mentioned, but we are informed that the Church records contain no others of the name at that time members, who meet the conditions.

Parents: No evidence of this John Clark's parents is known. Some propose Samuel & Hannah Fordham Clark, but this is not conclusive. 7-17-2015 disconnecting Samuel Clark, Sr., of Stamford and Hannah Clark as parents until properly sourced.

Married: Rebecca Marvin d. of Matthew Marvin & Elizabeth (Unknown) Marvin, b. 1639 Hartford, CT. No record of her marriage or death has been found.

The couple are member's of Hooker's Church in Hartford, 1680, but wife's name not mentioned.

John Clark of Hartford/Farmington is NOT the son of Samuel Clark & Hannah Fordham. No source for this information other than an unsourced family tree. The records of this marriage show that Samuel Clark & Hannah Fordham did not have a son John and the dates and geographic locations do not match this couple as being the parents of John Clark of Farmington who married Rebecca Marvin.
