"Georgia Genealogical Magazine, p. 379-Clower:" John Clower, Sr., Rev. War Soldier, signed a petition in what is now Warren Co. GA in 1774. He is said to have married there about that time. Her name was "Jenny" or "Jane", for she released dower when John Clower, Sr. sold land in Warren Co. GA on 29 Dec. 1806

John Clower was one of the earliest settler of Amite County Mississippi. Clower had a land grant in Amite County December 16, 1811. This land must have been in the part of Amite County that became Marion County about that time.

-In the 1813 tax list for Lawrence County "John Clower, 160 acres, 4th class, 1st quality of land in relation to the Pearl River waterway.

-William (1790-1861) and Purity Clower; daughter Lavina Millisap's son Rueben Webster Millsaps. Ruben, was a financier and philanthropist. He was a trustee of Vanderbilt University, founded Millsaps College, and President of Capital State Bank of Jackson. He built a Victorian residence Millsaps Buie House on State Street in Jackson, Mississippi.
