Register of Marriages states that neither had been married previously (and incorrectly states that John Coffey’s father William, a butcher, was deceased). It also states that Grace’s father John McMahon was a farmer and was deceased.

Death notice from Freeman's Journal of 26 September 1892 reads: "COFFEY-September 24, 1892, at his residence, 53 Upper Dorset Street, after a short illness, Mr John Coffey, second son of William Coffey, late of 40 James's Street and foreman for 20 years to the late Mr P Sullivan of 50 Great Britain Street RIP. Funeral will leave above address at 10.30a.m. to-morrow (Tuesday). American papers Please Copy" [NB - Freeman's Journal of 27 February 1855 - in a letter to the editor, mention is made of "P Sullivan, 40 James's Street" - this was also the address of William Coffey. Did William, John, or both work for Mr Sullivan?]
