Died at 90 Benburb Street, described in newspaper (Evening Herald) death notice as his sister's residence. Joseph is described in the notice as "eldest son of the late William Coffey". The civil register of deaths names the informant as "Harriette Coffey", niece, 10 Arran Quay. In 1901 Maria Sammon, daughters Mary and Josephine, and her mother Rose Coffey were living at 90 Benburb Street, where they had a butcher's shop.

Glasnevin Cemetery records describe Joseph as a widower, residing at 90 Benburb Street, and name the informant as Anne Coffey, 10 Arran Quay.
