John Cole, Sr's life timeline from FamilySearch.org Don't confuse this John Cole with his cousin, John Cole born 15 May 1660.

John (James, James) b. March 16, 1660;[1]Wakefield points out that the only source for this date is "The Desc. of James Cole by E.B Cole, but he does not document the date.[2]

m. Susannah Gray d/o Edward and Dorothy (Lettice) Gray[2][1] (later w/o Nathaniel Clark). Susannah was b 15 Oct 1668; d. 26 Aug 1727 [1] This marriage took place shortly before 1 April 1688, on which date Susanna Cole ("who was Grey") was called before the church for fornication with her husband before they were married.[2]

A marriage to Patience Barber was reported by EB Cole and subsequently in Torrey's New England Marriages, however Patience Barber was the wife of John Jr.[2]

John and Susannah lived in Plymouth and then moved to Plympton before 14 Feb 1705/6 when Joseph was born.

Referred to as John Cole Sr. in the Plympton Vital Records[3]

John Cole died March 14, 1723/4, in Carver.[4] or in Plympton in his 63rd year[3][2][1] He was buried at what is now called the Lakenham Cemetery in Carver.[4]

John Cole's will dated 13 May 1723/4, refers to himself of Plimpton, Plymouth, Province of Massachusetts, in New England, a yeoman, and sick and weak. His wife Susanna Cole is heir and executrix. No children are mentioned.[5][6]

The administration of Susanna's estate in 1727, mentions children. The documents refer to them as her children: John Cole, Edward Cole, Thomas Cole, Joseph Cole, Benjamin Cole, Elizabeth Cole, Samuel Cole (decd, had a son Samuel), Mary Wright wife of Isaac Wright of Plympton, Susanna Harlow wife of Robert Harlow of Plimouth[7]

Children:

  11. Mary Cole, wife of Isaac Wright of Plympton[7]
  12. Susanna Cole, wife of Robert Harlow of Plymouth[7]

Notes for Susanna (Cole) Harlow: Susanna Cole, daughter of John and Susanna (Gray) Cole, was probably born in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where her parents lived at the estimated time of her birth. Her birth is estimated at about 1695. John Cole does not mention his children in his will and Susanna has no birth record. However, 16 Sept 1724, Robert Harlow and wife Susannah quitclaimed to her widowed mother, Susanna Cole of Plympton, claim to the estate of her father John Cole. When the widow Susanna Cole's estate is settled, in 1728, the distribution document mentions daughter Susanna Harlow, wife of Robert Harlow. She and Robert are also mentioned in the probate documents of her brother Samuel.[11]
