John arrived in Philadelphia on October 22, 1862 [sic. actually 1682] on the ship "Lamb" as part of William Penn's Fleet with his mother, the widow, Ellen Stackhouse Cowgill and his siblings, Ralph, Edmund, Jane, and Jennet. The Lamb departed from Liverpool, England on June 26, 1682.

His first wife Bridget, a Croasdale , part of the then large Croasdale family died in Bucks County. John then remarried.

  • There is a place name in North Yorkshire called Cowgill, a bit north of Settle.
