About John W Deibert

John W. Deibert, 94, Velva, ND, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at a Benedictine Living Center nursing home, Garrison, ND.

John was born on December 27, 1921, on the family farm north of Verendrye, ND, the son of Anton and Theresa (Klein) Deibert. John attended school in Verendrye, ND.

John entered the United States Army on October 27, 1942 serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 31, 1945, and later awarded a Purple Heart.

He was a lifelong farmer with an amazing work ethic. He farmed his land just north of Verendrye for many years. He married Eva Feist on October 20, 1947, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe, ND. John loved horses. He was very proud of raising Palomino and Belgium horses for work and was his only hobby. After retiring John and Eva moved into Velva and in June of 2010, he moved to Valley View Manor in Velva and most recently the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison.

John was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Karlsruhe where he was an active member of the church council, St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Velva, the Velva American Legion Post #39 where he enjoyed participating in the Memorial Day Functions and parades, Velva Senior Citizens, the Moose Lodge in Minot and the VFW Commander in Karlsruhe Post #9316. He was a former member of the Falsen Township Board.

Survivors: wife of 68 years Eva, Velva; sons, Dale (Virginia) Deibert and Gary (Theresa) Deibert, all of Surrey, ND; daughters, Sharon (Bob) Huizenga, Glenburn, ND and Arlene (Ernie-Dave) Brewer, Bland, VA; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Pool, Lincoln, ND, Keith (Sue) Deibert, Surrey, Ken (Cindy) Deibert, Perham, MN, Scott (Lesley) Huizenga, Kansas City, MO, Byron (Becky) Huizenga, Kenmare, Chad Brewer, Canton, GA and Curtis (Nada) Brewer, Lake Elsinore, CA; nine great-grandchildren, Laynie (Joseph) Knipp, Chelsie, Kendrick, Haley and Tucker Deibert and Nicholas, Abigail and Mackenzie Huizenga and Ethan Lathrop; brothers, Andrew Deibert, Minot and Martin Deibert, Towner, ND and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Frank and Joe Deibert and sisters, Elizabeth Dosch, Tillie Haberlock, Kathryn Miller, Helen Burckhard and Mary Bohl.
