Notes
Mary Dancing Water Bush was not the wife of John Early, Sr. or mother of Summer Moon Cherokee

Does Summer Moon Cherokee daughter of John William "Sharp As Fox" Early, II & Mary Dancing Water Bush ring any bells?
Only if you watch a lot of Westerns on TV. Hollywood Indian names are pretty much a dead giveaway that the person is fictional. The Cherokee never lived in eastern North Carolina (Craven County is on the coast). All of North Carolina was Albemarle County until 1670. Edgecomb County didn't exist until 1741. There were many small tribes living along the Carolina coast and on the barrier islands in the 1600's, but most were either forced off their land or died from disease and attacks by settlers before 1700. There was a man named John Early AND a man named William Early who lived in Chowan County NC in the early 1700's. Both are found in land deeds. William had a wife named Ellinor. I couldn't find a will for either man in Chowan.
There is a will for a John Early in Bertie County; probated in 1740. Named wife Ann, listed children Margaret Machenry, Martha Thomson, Mary Blake, Sarah Reef, Elisabeth Willson, Bethshaba Morris, Rebekah Morris.and John Early.
