John Mitchell Forbes, Sr.

John Mitchell Forbes, Sr, was born in 1832 in Scotland, the son of William Forbes and Catherine Mitchell. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 23 November 1853. He married Ann Robertson in 1855 and they immediately emigrated to the United States, eventually arriving in Salt Lake City. His son, Charles Robertson Forbes, said that John Mitchell Forbes was left a Scottish inheritance and had to go to Canada to claim it. He was never heard from again. This happened around the time that Charles was eleven years old.

• William and two sisters, Catherine and Janet, emigrated from Scotland to Australia in 1852 on the ship John Davies, at about the same time, their brother, John Mitchell Forbes, and his wife, Ann Robertson, emigrated from Scotland to the United States.
• Possibly arrived in USA aboard the Cynosure 5 September 1855, as this is the only arrival in NYC that fits with John and Ann's ages, DOM, and birth of their son, William; however, passenger list shows John's wife as 'Mary'.
