John Gearhart, great-grandfather of our subject, emigrated from Germany about the middle of the seventeenth century, and settled at Baegler Run, Penn. He married a Miss Gray, and to this union were born ten children: Nanly, Jacob S. , John, Adam, Christ, Lias, Peter, Eve Betsey, Susan Nancy and Catherine. Grand- father Jacob S.
