About John Gibson, Sr

Birth year is an approximation, birth location not known but thought to be Virginia. John Gibson Sr. died before April 3rd, 1829 when his will was probated in Campbell County (which no longer exists, is now Douglas & Fulton Counties) but a copy of the will and estate proceedings was recorded in Monroe County. These records are now stored at the Fulton County Courthouse. John's will was signed in Warren County Aug. 8, 1826, entered probate in Campbell County Apr. 3, 1829, and an estate inventory was made on May 20, 1829.

Early books about Georgia state Revolutionary Soldier John Gibson was buried near Sandtown (once near Campbellton) Georgia on the NW side of the river, DAR marker placed in the early 1900's. However, after repeatedly contacting DAR, we find no support of this grave marking. (We had hoped it would confirm his burial location.) As to the reference NW side of the river, we can find no burial grounds there earlier than 1876, which are in the Baker Family Cemetery. However Sandtown is commemorated by an historical marker at the intersection of Fulton Industrial Blvd. and Boat Rock Rd. in Campbellton, which is about 1 mile from this Aderhold-Kolb cemetery on the SE side of the Chattahoochee River, and this cemetery contains several legible gravestones attesting to 1830's burials. Taking all this together, it is believed that a burial site at Aderhold-Kolb, shown in the picture, otherwise unidentified, is that of John Gibson and possibly his 2nd wife Clarissa Matthews. Sadly, no proof exists, and the site was inspected for a DAR marker in 2010, none found. I'm posting this burial here, as I believed, in the hopes that the above information will assist future research. All that I know about John Gibson is located HERE.
