The PEDIGREE of John 'the Gentle' (4th of Freuchie) GRANT

2nd of Rothiemurchus; of MULBEN; (Leslie's 2nd husband) Born: ? Died: 1585

Marriage brought yet more power for the Grants when Sir John Grant married Maud, the daughter of Gilbert of Glencairnie. Maud was heiress of the cadet branch of the ancient Celtic Stathearn dynasty, an Earldom older than written records. Their eldest son was the first of the Grants of Freuchie, while a younger son was the progenitor of the Tullochgorm branch.

   IDENTITY: Called 'the Gentle.' He was retoured hier to his father in the lands of Glencairnie and Ballindalloch at Elgin on 6 October 1553, aud in the lands of Freuchie and others. On the 25 October 1557 he had a charter of the lands of Parkhill, co. Fife, on the forfeiture of John Leslie.
