Died, at his home in Darlington, Feb. 13th, 1913, John Haggerty, in the 68th year of his age. Calm and peaceful as a babe on its mother's bosom, he went to his last sleep, surrounded by his sons and daughters and his devoted wife. Those who were present were Geroge, Darlington, Fred, Stockton, Ill., Arthur and Mrs. Annie Saunders, Omaha, Neb., Charles, California, was absent.
The funeral services were at the residence. The pall bearers were of the order of Sons of Veterans, and the Grand Army Post turned out in a body to pay the last tribute of respect to their departed comrade.
The deceased enlisted in the Union Army at his birth place, Buffalo, N.Y. in Sept. 1862, at 17 years of age and served until May, 1865, when he was mustered out. He was dangerously wounded in an assault on Fort Hudson, Louisiana and was confined to the hospital for a long period. On recovery he returned to his regiment, with which he remained until the close of the war.

John Hagerty, an ex soldier, died at his home in this city Friday morning. The funeral was held from the residence on Sunday, Rev. J.R. Fretts, of the Darlington Methodist Episcopal church officiating. The local G.A.R. participated in the funeral ceremonies and the body was laid to rest in the Union Grove Cemetery- Darlington Democrat.
