About John Hale

John Hale, born about May 11, 1575 in Hertfordshire, England, was not the son of William Hale of Kings Walden and wife Rose Bond. See the discussion tab for more information.

John Hale of Hertfordshire witnessed the will of Thomas Hale on October 11, 1630, along with Francis Kirby. Thomas described Francis Kirby as "my brother," in appointing him overseer to his son Thomas Jr. It is highly likely that John and Thomas were brothers. Both men had Kirby wives.

In Winthrop's Medical Journal (page 713)[1], he identifies a set of siblings in the following entry:

"Mar: 23: 1666 (1667) Peck, Martha: 45 [b 1622]: wife of Paule of Hartford.... she is sister of Sam: Hale of Wethersfeild [sic] & hath a brother Th: Hale of Charlton" (Charlestown, MA). This same Thomas later removed to Norwalk, CT, having formerly had his brother Samuel with him when at Hartford; Thomas had been before that briefly at Roxbury, Mass. by 1634].
There were two separate Hale families found in the parish and probate records of Watton at Stone, Hertford, England, with additional evidence that they were somehow related to each other. Both are likely to be parents of two different Thomas Hales who ended up in New England:
Thomas Hale married 19 Oct 1601 and made a will date 11 Oct 1630, which was witnessed by a John Hale (next), who signed by mark [Register 35:370]. Likely he who married Joan P...
