About John Hamilton of Orbiston
JOHN HAMLTON OF ORBISTON
John Hamilton of Orbiston is the son of Master Gavin Hamilton, Provost of the Collegiate Church of Bothwell. John Anderson identifies him as a son of Jean Muirhead "the fair maid of Lechbrunnock" but this seems uncertain. Hamilton Memoirs
John Hamilton of Orbieston is the bastard brother of Thomas Hamilton, canon of Dunkeld,:"John de H. fratri carnali dicti Tho. et heredibus ejus masculis de corpore ejus legitime procreatis". He is the second named heir to the lands of Orbiston (Osbarnstoun) after his brother Thomas, both of whom are mentioned in the entail detaIled in his father's charter dated 23 August 1468. Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, AD. 1424-1513, charter number 985 on pp. 203-04
Death
John Hamilton of Orbiston appears to have died before 17 January 1513, when Gavin Hamilton of Orbiston (Orvestoun) and his heirs are named in the entail executed by James, Earl of Arran. Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, AD. 1424-1513, charter number 3803 on p. 827
