About John Mathews Hamilton, Jr
He was the first Hamilton to come to Calhoun County WV. Son of John Mathews Hamilton and Mary Matilda Lorentz. J
John M. Hamilton Jr., was a member of the United States Congress.
After he was admitted to the Bar he came to Grantsville in 1877 to practice law with his brother-in-law R. G. Linn. Hamilton was prominent man, known throughout West Virginia as a business, civic, political, fraternal and religious leader, in addition to being a practicing attorney.
Mr. Hamilton was also the first president of the Calhoun County Bank.
He married Minnie Cook, October 19, 1885.
He was the father of Minne Blanch Hamilton a public health nurse, who the Calhoun County Minnie Hamilton Health System is named for.
