About John Heaton

John HEATON, a well known and respected farmer citizen of east Richland township, died at his home Monday morning, May 22, 1916 at 3 o'clock. He was born Jan 18, 1849, and was therefore aged sixty-seven years, four months and four days at the time of his death. He had been in failing health for the past five months, but had only been bedfast two months. He spent most of his life in the community in which he resided and was considered a successful farmer. In early life he was married to Miss Ellen HUTCHENS. To this union thirteen children were born. Three children preceded their father to the life beyond. The remaining children are: Albert, Lewis, Homer, Mrs. Lucy STALCUP, Mrs. Dora WORKMAN, Mrs. Osa BUCKNER, Mrs. Nelle LIVINGSTON, Mrs. Birdie BLAND, Mrs. Goldie RITTER and Miss Mabel HEATON, who, with their mother, mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. He is also survived by thirty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The children were all present when the end came. He had planned his funeral and as the end approached he called them to his beside and bade them all good bye, asking them all to meet in heaven. He had expressed himself a number of times during his illness that he was ready and willing to go and awaiting the end. He was a member of the Sharkey church. The community has lost a good citizen and the neighbors a good friend. He is also survived by two brothers, Daily and Virgil HEATON, and two half-brothers, William and Henry HEATON, and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline MORELAND, and Mrs. Rebecca Ellen WORKMAN. The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Henry FLORY of Tulip, after which his remains were laid to rest in the Heaton Cemetery near his home.

—John HEATON was the son of David HEATON and his second wife, Sally (WATSON) HEATON who were married 20 May 1847 - Greene County Marriage Record D, Page 74
