Crowel People had their origin in Germany. Henry Crowel 1st, emigrated to America in the first decade of the seventeen hundreds and he settled in Frederick county, Maryland. Tradition has it that Henry was so poor that his time of landing was sold to pay his passage over. When we read in his will how much he had accumulated, besides raising a family of seven children, we take it for granted that he was a "hustler" indeed. His wife's name was Margaret and his children were Dewalt, Michael, Barbara, Henry, Mrs. Daniel Root, John and Sevile. Henry's will was made out September 6, 1784. Dewalt Crowel, son of Henry and Margaret Crowel, was born in or about 1750. He married Juliana Nutz in 1772; was a farmer, moved family from Frederick County, Maryland, into Virginia sometime between 1790 in 1794, settling into Botetough County for a short time and then to Franklin County remaining there for a period of several years. Then Dewalt and family moved to Montgomery county near Dayton, Ohio. Through some misunderstanding between them, Dewalt and Juliana parted; he dying at the home of his son, Dewalt Crowell Jr., near Covington, Miami County, Ohio, in the year 1839. He served in the Revolutionary war and was a brave soldier in that great struggle for liberty. His wife died at the home of her daughter, Sarah Eagle, near West Carrollton, Ohio. Sarah Crowel Eagle, daughter of Dewalt Crowel, was born August 20, 1795, and she married Henry Eagle, June 22, 1815, she died August 15, 1879 age 83 years, 11 months and 15 days. There were eight or nine children but by 1899 they were all dead except John Eagle, Mary Treon Brian, Ohio, and Eliza Gebhart of Miamisburg, Ohio. There was one named Orace Eagle from whom Oris Kimble evidently got his name. Mary Eagle Treon on was the mother of Sarah Treon Kimble, wife of Henry Kimble
