Born and died at "Red Hill" Plantation; the son of Patrick Henry and Dorothea Spotswood Dandridge (both buried at this cem.); *see his mother's gravesite for his siblings.
John inherited 1/2 of the "Red Hill" Plantation upon the death of his father and built the first addition to the house. Occupation: running of the plantation.
He married on 19 Oct 1826 in Lynchburg, VA, Elvira Bruce McClelland (buried at this cem.); they had the following 8 children: Margaret Ann b. 1827 who married William Miller; Elvira b. 1828; William Wirt b. 1831 who married Lucy Marshall; Margaret Ann b. 1822; Dr. Thomas Stanhope McClelland b. 1822; Laura Helen b. 1836 d. 1856 (buried at this cem.) who married Dr. James W. Carter; Emma Cabell b. 1838 who married James Boswell Ferguson III; and John Henry b. abt 1840 who died at birth (buried at this cem.)

John born 16 Feb 1796 at "Red Hill," Charlotte Co., VA, died 7 Jan 1868 at “Red Hill,” age 71, married Elvira McClelland 19 Jan 1826 in Lynchburg, VA, born 23 Apr 1808, died 2 Nov 1875 in Richmond, VA. John inherited half of “Red Hill”, built first addition to house. His obituary said, “It was not the disposition of Mr. Jno. Henry to engage in the turmoils of public life. In the employments of his beautiful plantation, in the rearing of a large and intelligent family, and in the gentle pursuits of literature, he spent a peaceful and honorable life.” John and Elvira buried at “Red Hill.”
