John William Holmes, MD

John William Holmes was the oldest child of Joshua Atchley Holmes, Sr. and Elizabeth Rebecca Calfee Holmes. He was born near Barren Springs, Wythe County, VA on December 28, 1848.

John William Holmes married Rebecca Davis Hart of Accomack County, VA on March 15, 1882. He became a Doctor and was a prominent Physician in Pulaski City and County.

"Uncle Doctor" was the term of endearment that all of the Uncles and Cousins called him.

Dr. John William Holmes and Rebecca Davis Hart's children were: Elizabeth Susan Holmes who married Percy Eckman Walker in 1913; and Henry Hart Holmes (b. 1887) became a Civil Engineer; and John William Atchley Holmes (b. 1889). Dr. John William Holmes died on December 5, 1925 at the age of 76 at Kenova, West Virginia.

Dr. John William Holmes and his wife Rebecca Davis Hart are buried at the Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski, VA.
