Mary Osborne, bp. Ashford 3 March 1604/5, daughter of Edward Osborne and Mary Mawdsley, m. Eastwell (license 18 Sept 1623) John House, saddler of Lenham, bp. Eastwell 19 June 1603, son of Rev. John House, minister of Eastwell. The daughter of Rev. John House, Hannah House, sister-in-law of Mary (Osborne) House, was the first wife of Puritan clergyman John Lothrop, early settler of Barnstable, Mass.

John Howse Jr., the son of John and his second wife Alice (birth surname unproven) Howse, was baptised at Eastwell, Kent, England on June 19, 1603.[1] On the 18th of September 1623 John married Mary Osborne there.[2]

"Canterbury Marriage License. John House, of Lenham, saddler, bachelor, about 21, at his own government, and Mary Osborne, of Ashford, maiden, about 20, daughter of Edward Osborne late of the same place, yeoman, deceased, and now under the government of her mother, - Osborne of the same place, widow, who consents. To be married at Eastwell by reason that Mr. John House [rector and] parson there, father of the said John House, intendeth to give them their wedding dinner. Dated 18 September 1623."[3]

They were "probably" the parents of:[4]

  2. Elizabeth Howse bp. 24 Sep 1626

John was still alive on October 18, 1643, the date of his brother Thomas' will.[4]
