Sir John Huddleston Knt vvho married Jane one of the co heiresses of Sir Miles Stapleton of Ingham in Yorkshire He was made bailiff and keeper of the king's woods and chaces in Barnoldwic in the county of York sheriff of the county of Cumberland by the Duke of Gloucester for his life steward of Penrith and warden of the marches j and in 7 Edw IV represented the county of Cumberland in parliament He was succeeded by his son

• There is no indication that any part of the manor passed to the Calthorps. In 1500 Miles Harcourt son of Christopher and 'Joan released all his claim in West Dean to Sir John Huddleston, his mother's second husband. (fn. 76) This was no doubt a quitclaim to Sir John' for life, for this moiety of the manor remained in the Harcourt family until 1578–9, when it was sold by Walter Harcourt and his son Robert to Henry Giffard. (fn. 77)
