John "Jack" Rooney

Sioux City - John P. "Jack" Rooney, 61, of Sioux City passed away Monday, 28 Apr. 2014, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. & a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel 3220 Stone Park Blvd. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapel.com. Jack was born on 28 Dec. 1952, in Sioux City, the son of Patrick & Ruth (McCarthy) Rooney. Jack grew up in Sioux City & attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School & then graduated from Heelan High School. He married Margaret "Margie" Berens on 22 Feb. 1969, in Elk Point, S.D. She died 20 Mar. 2013, in Sioux City. Jack owned & operated Bennett's Motel in Riverside & All American Gutter & Siding. Jack was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren & travel. He enjoyed playing the piano & guitar. He especially loved dancing with his wife, Margie. Survivors include 3 children, Kerie Worden (Bill) of Sioux City, Shane Rooney of Sioux City, & Kelly Rooney (Emma) of McCook Lake, S.D.; 2 brothers, Gene Rooney & Pat Rooney, both of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren, Katie & Cody Worden, Maggie, Molly & Mattie Rooney, Lexi, Brennan & Carley Rooney 2 great-grandchildren, Chloe Young & Rhett Rooney. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, & his wife, Margie.
