About John Jacob Jacques Mickley

per Cheryl Coston:

Suzanne and Louis never came to America. Son, John Jacob, came over and Americanized the name Michelet to Mickley. So Suzanne was never a "Mickley". Her was Suzanne Mangeot Michelet.

Came to America August 28, 1733, and settled near what is now known as Mickleys, Lehigh County, and Married Elizabeth Barbara Burkhalter.

Came to America on the ship Hope of London which departed from Rotterdam, Holland and landed in Philadelphia 8/28/1733. Became a naturalized citizen on August 9, 1761. He was originally interred in the Egypt Cemetery but was re-interred in this cemetery in 1864.

Husband of Elizabeth B. (Burkhalter) Mickley.

Burial: Saint Johns Union Cemetery Mickleys Lehigh County Pennsylvania, USA

John Jacob Jr and his 11 year old son (John Jacob III) are the ones who helped transport the PA State House Bell in 1775. The bell is known as the Liberty Bell today. THe wagon broke down 6 miles from Mt. Zion Reform Church when the axle broke. Another wagon came to get the bell and finish the transport. The Mickley's were members of the Mt Zion Reform Church. The bell was buried under the church's floor boards. This was done prior to the British takeover of Philadelphia in 1775.

Our family, like thousands of other families at this time, can claim relationship to this story through an in-law relationship.

The Ulrich Burkhalter family is not directly related to John Jacob Jr.
