About John Jacobson Järvenpää
Jacobson, John August Mon 11 July 1938 Fort William Daily Times Journal
Stricken suddenly while sitting in a chair at his home in Sellers township last evening, John August Jacobson, 66, succumbed from a heart attack. News of his sudden death comes as a shock to his many friends in the district. He came to this district 48 years ago. He first lived in Fort William and for the last 35 years resided at Sellers. He was born in Finland and was a member of the Finnish Lutheran Church. He is survived by six sons, Edward, 1019 Alexandra Street; William, Vickers Heights; Toivo of Nolalu; Elmer of Geraldton; and Onnie and Ben of Sellers; and three daughters, Tyne, Mrs. S. Kivi of Sellers; Fannie, Mrs. W. Rajala of Port Arthur; , Margaret, Mrs. E. Annala of Geraldton. A brother William resides in Covington, Michigan. Twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild survive also. His wife died nine years ago. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family home, Sellers. Rev. J.E. Nopola of the Finnish Lutheran church will officiate and burial will be in the Leeper Cemetery. The body will be taken home Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock.
There is conflicting information with respect to John Jacobson's date of birth. In John's obituary and on his grave stone it gives the date of birth as 1 January 1872. However the original birth / christening church record in Lapua Finland shows the date of birth as 28 December 1870 and his christening date was 1 January 1871. His christening date of January 1st would explain the source for the 1 January date found on the gravestone and the year of birth is only out by one year and a bit. The following Hiski record is extracted from that original document.
