John was the 2nd son of John Jenkinson and Frances Barker. He was born on 2 September 1781 and was baptised on Monday 1 October 1781 at St Maurice's Church in Winchester, Hampshire, England.

The Reverend John Jenkinson and Frances Augusta Pechell, 3rd daughter of Augustus Pechell and Sarah Drake, obtained a Marriage License on Saturday 3 April 1813. They were married on 8 April 1813, a Thursday, in the Parish Church of St George Hanover Square, Marylebone, Middlesex, England.
