About John Judd, Sr.
Rowland Judd adopted a 5 year-old orphan named Joseph Cartwright in 1778. In 1796, he adopted another boy named James Crane, aged 11. Rowland died in Reddies River of Wilkes County on October 25, 1806, leaving behind six sons: Nathaniel Judd, Sr.; Rowland Judd, Jr.; Robert Judd; John Judd; Joseph Cartwright; and James Crane. He also had a daughter, Elizabeth Judd (1769-1837).
