About John King
John King died suddenly at his home on East Dunlap street about six o'clock on Sunday morning. Mr. King had been in failing health for several months from heart trouble, but his condition had not shown symptoms of a sudden collapse and his death came as a shock to the family. Mr. King was 72 years of age and is survived by his wife and a large family of grown sons and daughters, all of whom are occupying positions of responsibility in business or professions.
Mr. King was at one time coroner for Lancaster county and had held other positions of trust. The deceased was a member of the First Baptist church of Lancaster. The funeral services were held at the late residence on Dunlap street at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, Rev. J.S. Corpening, officiating and the burial was in Westside cemetery. All of the members of the immediate family were present, except Prof. Chalmers King, of Arizona, the other sons and daughters being Palmer King, and Miss Belle King, Spartanburg; John Martin King, Rocky Mount, N.C.; G.H. King, Charlotte; Charlie King and Miss Mildred King, Lancaster; Mrs. E.B. Townsend, Bennettsville. The following gentlemen acted as paulbearers: J.M. Hood, Will Langley, J.E. Patterson, John C. Edwards, J.H. Thomasson, Will Blackmon.
