About John Lane of the New Haven Colony

There are conflicting reports of John Lane's birth place, being in England or in New Haven, CT. But New Haven was not settled by 1610.

John Lane's name was on the original list of free planters of Milford, CT.

2nd wife Mary was most likely born in England. When she married Edward Camp, they lived in New Haven until his death. She then returned to Milford, CT and married John Lane on April 4, 1666, and lived there until her death in 1680. "Lane, John, widower of Milford married 4 April 1666 Campe, widow who lived at Chestnut Hill in New Haven Parish by Mr. Treat Majestrat in Milford." (Milford Vital Records)

John Lane died in 1669 and in his will mentioned Mary's children, Samuel, Edward Jr., and Mary. Per families of Ancient New Haven, John Lane had a will dated 10 September 1669, proved Sept. 1669. In it were named sons-in-law Jobamah Gunn, Samuel & Edward Camp; daughter-in-law Mary Camp; wife. Mary;. Isaac Lane; daughter-in-law Mercy Baldwin; brother William. Isaac of Mid, inventory 30 Aug 1711.

Mary Lane died in 1680; Milford Church Records state "Lane, Mary died Feb. 1680".
