John Lane was the 1st Sheriff of Buncombe County, North Carolina, moved to Kentucky in 1804. He had 5 sons and 2 daughters: Rev. Jesse Lane,(Who was 2nd in charge of the General Baptist Church in the USA), Senator Joseph Lane (Indiana), (who was also a Brigadier General in the Mexican War, cleaned the Pirates out of Cave-In-Rock on the Ohio River, 1st Governor of Oregon and Congressional Delegate to Congress while Oregon was a territory, and 1st US Senator from Oregon, and Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Southern Democrats in 1860.), Mary, Lorena, Floyd, Winifred, John, and Simon.
