About John Laurence
Brother Patrick's gravestone says that in 1781 John was tenant of Miln (or Mill) of Gask. From the photograph of the house and the family emphasis on his tenancy at Miln of Gask, I suspect John was a very successful and much admired farmer.
Here is the inscription on the gravestone of Dick Laurence, brother to this John, in the churchyard of St Bean's at Kinkell: Dick Laurence BIRTH 1724 DEATH Oct 1781 (aged 56–57) BURIAL Kinkell Churchyard Auchterarder, Perth and Kinross, Scotland
Inscription 1782 Here is deposited the dust of DICK LAURENCE late at Methven who died in October 1781 aged 57 years. In whose memory this stone is erected by Helen Pearson his relic and John Laurence his brother german now tenant at the Miln of Gask and in memory of David their father and of their mother Janet Martin and of Anne Gibson late spouse to the said John Laurence
Patrick LAURENCE died Methven 10.1781 57, widow Helen PEARSON, brother John now tenant Miln of Gask (wife Annie GIBSON ) , father David LAURENCE, mother Janet MARTIN
[This makes it clear that Dick is a poor transcription of Patk - possibly a damaged monument.]
