John Lawrence was the 2nd son of Nathanel and Sarah Morse Lawrence. Sarah was the daughter of Joseph and Hannah Phillips Morse.

John married Anna Tarbel Nov 9, 1687 in Groton and had 10 children. Anna was the daughter of Thomas and Hannah Longley Lawrence.

John and Anna were received in the church of Lexington Feb 9 1698-9.

They had moved to Cambridge Farms in 1693 to a residence on Bedford Road.

He was parish assessor in 1702, constable in 1705, selectman in 1716, 17, 22, 25, 26, 31 and tythingmanin 1719.

He is the brother of Mercy (Lawrence) Page, Nathaniel Lawrence Jr., Hannah (Lawrence) Holden, Joanna Lawrence, Mary (Lawrence) Wheeler, Elizabeth (Lawrence) Gilson, Elizabeth (Lawrence) Harris and Deborah (Lawrence) Tufts. He married Anna (Tarbell) Lawrence, married before 1697. He is the father of John Lawrence Jr, William Lawrence, Anna (Lawrence) Bancroft, Jonathan Lawrence and Amos Lawrence.
