About Maj. John Mason
Mason was born in Ravensthorpe,[1] Northamptonshire,[2] England. John Mason's baptism is recorded in the St. Deny's church records on October 5, 1600 and lists his father as Richard Mason, who was married on May 23, 1600 in Ravensthorpe to Alis Burlyn - Burlyn is probably an error for Butlyn because Alis Butlyn was baptized in Ravensthorpe on September 9. 1576. Alis could be the phonetic version of Alice.

not-so-brief biography
From Lincoln's History of Hingham:
Capt. John, who finsihed up the Pequod War in 1637, being then in chief command, afts. major-general, etc., was prob. a resident of Hing. for awhile subsequent to that eventful period of our early New Eng. history. Several yrs. later he resided at Windsor, at Saybrook, and lastly, at Norwich, where he d. 30 Jan. 1671-72, aet. 72 yrs. Whether he was twice m. or not is uncertain; but his marriage to ____ Peck (prob. dau. of Robert Peck of Hing.) is recorded in Hobart's Journal, under dated of July, 1639. In Suffolk Deeds, vol. i. p. 82, is the following.:
Capt. John Mason of Windsor granted vnto Thomas Thaxter of Hingham his house and land in Hingham weh formerly was Mr Robert Pecks wth all the priviledges thereto belonging and this was by an absolute deed of sale dated 5 (5) 1647, and acknowledge 6 (6) 1647 before Mr Endecot.â As it is a matter of record that Robert Peck, and the minister and teacher, came to Hing. in 1638 with his w. and two ch., and returned to Eng. in 1641 with his w. and one child, i.e., his s. Joseph, it seems to be almost conclusive that the child left here was the w. of Capt. Mason; and this belief is strengthened by the foregoing conveyance.
