About John Masters, of Watertown
John Masters and his young family arrived in the American Colonies as a party in the Winthrop fleet, the "Great Immigration". They likely arrived aboard the flagship "Arbella" on 6-22-1630. John and his family accompanied Sir Richard Sulton-Stall, when they paddled up the Charles River to a green place whose Indian name sounded to some like (Pigs-go-suck). Here they found the settlement of Watertown, Massachusetts.
In 1631, when Sir Richard was forced to return to England due to the illlness of his two daughters, John Masters was placed in charge of all Sir Richard's interest in Watertown.

Migration, page 915, says Henry Herrick, resident of Salem and later Beverly,
had an agreement, before 30 Nov. 1665, with "Frances Masters, Frenchman," that
his son John Masters was to live with Herrick for 11 1/2 years. This must have
been another Masters family. John of Cambridge died in 1639.
Copied from New England Historic Genealogical Society. U3 page 356. John Masters was one of the earliest of the settlers in Wattertown, Mass. John Masters was admitted a Freeman in 1631. He was chosen to advise with the Govenor and assistants about the raining of public stock in 1632.
JOHN1 MASTERS of Watertown, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts was born between 1556 and 1597, and died on 21 Dec. 1639 in Cambridge, Middlesex Co. He married JANE OR JOAN of Cambridge, who died on 28 Dec. 1639 in Cambridge. [4, 1]

- John Masters Find A Grave Memorial# 34348263 BIRTH: By about 1581 based on estimated date of marriage. Tavernkeeper who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1630. First settled in Watertown; moved to Cambridge in 1633. Died in Cambridge, 21 December 1639.
Married by about 1606 Jane _____ (assuming she was the mother of all his children). She died at Cambridge 10 December 1639, yet her husband named her in his will, suggesting an error on the clerk's part or lack of awareness on John's. Alternatively, Jane could be a daughter or other relative of John's and his wife's name unknown. Source: Anderson's Winthrop Fleet.
