MEMORIAL PHOTOS 0 FLOWERS 2 He was the son of Edmund Mathis and Unity Register Mathis. He married in 1827 to Jemima Lee b 1807 GA, dau of Joshua Lee. John and Jemima were living with their son, Ezekiel in 1870 Clinch, GA. Jemima died after 1870. Her burial site is unknown.

According to Huxford's Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia vol 3 p 201, John owned land Lot 441, 7th Dist in Clinch Co, GA which John sold to his son, Ezekiel, in 1871 and continued to live there south of Dupont, Clinch Co, GA until a few years before his death when he went to Hamilton Co, FL to live with his son , John Jr. He died there and was buried at Prospect Cem, White Springs, Hamilton Co, FL. Note: Not Prospect Cem of Clinch, GA.

According to this vol, Huxford lists the following: Appling Co, GA 1822-25 Dist 442 as Ensign of Militia Lowndes Co, GA census 1830-1840 Lowndes Co, GA 1833-38 Dist 664 as Justice of Peace Indian War 1838 one enlistment under Capt. Jesse Carter and one enlistment under Capt. Levi J knight Clinch Co, GA 22 Jan 1859 transferred his church membership to Prospect Primitive Baptist Church in Clinch Co, GA near his home. Clinch Co, GA census 1850, 1860, 1870 Clinch Co, GA 1851-58 and 1861-64 as Coroner Clinch Co, GA 1871 sold property to Ezekiel Mathis
